Chip Seal with Fog Seal
This can be applied over older asphalt or compacted gravel. Layers of hot tar and pea gravel are put down and pressed together with a roller.
This creates a hard, slightly rough surface. When fog seal is applied over the top, the finished product has a color similar to new asphalt (but a rougher texture). Pavement markings can be applied on top.
This is a good option for community roads and parking lots, as well as homes if you want a look similar to asphalt.
With any of these solutions, the surface will continue to compact for the first several months the product is down.
Chip Seal with decorative gravel
This can also be applied over older asphalt or compacted gravel. Two layers of hot tar and pea gravel are put down and pressed together with a roller.
The second layer of pea gravel is washed decorative stone. This results in a hard surface with some loose stones on top, and gives a more natural looking finish.
With any of these solutions, the surface will continue to compact for the first several months the product is down.
